Growing up in a middle-class Texas suburb, I was raised in a predominantly politically conservative home. However, unlike my parents, my political ideology has strayed to a more liberal stance.
During the most recent election, I was living in Washington, DC, where I was able to witness firsthand a lot of aspects of the political process many Americans are not--like seeing Barack Obama speak, or living down the street from various congressmen or lobbyists.
My first voting experience was the 2008 presidential election. But since, I have yet to participate in another election--which is a shame. It seems many Americans are embarrassingly unacquainted with current political affairs and happenings--myself included. I want to understand the inter-workings of U.S. National Government, as well as our relationship with other nations and contemporary issues. I think political knowledge is crucial to be a well-informed American as well as citizen of the world.
